11/28/2018

You might be wondering what in the world is chalkboard paint. It's paint that you can put on any surface that will convert the surface into a usable chalkboard. You can erase and draw on it just like your standard chalkboard.

Okay, now that you know what it is, you might be wondering what you do with it. Well, here are some tips about the
do’s and don’ts of using chalkboard paint.

Reasons for using chalkboard paint:
  • Educational and Artistic Purpose: take pleasure in a changing canvas for artwork from artists of all ages.
  • Swift Changes: You can change any artwork, message, or word with a fast swipe.
  • Easy and Quick Transformation: painting any surface and wall are a breeze.
  • Useful: so versatile you can do a lot with it.

Reasons to “pump the brakes” on using chalkboard paint:

Planning and Time: you will have to use at least three coats of paints, and you have to wait until each layer dries before applying the next one. After the last coat of chalkboard paint, you have to wait a week before you can get creative.

Don’t go full throttle: you should start with just using the chalkboard paint to accent your walls before doing all the walls in a room

Cost: chalkboard paint isn’t cheap. If you are considering chalkboard paint spray, you will be spending even more money.

Allergies & Dust: If you or anyone in your house has asthma or any respiratory problems, you want to consider this before you begin the job. Being allergic to chalk dust is real and chalk dust drifting in the air is an irritant.

Damage and Repainting: chalkboard painting necessitates many layers. To change your walls back, you must strip the walls with sanding.

Preparing your Walls for Chalkboard Paint
Start by applying tinted primer to the area, making sure the primer closely matches the color you’re using. Chalkboard paint is available in an assortment of colors. Make sure to prime with the best color match you can get.

Then, apply a layer of chalkboard paint. Allow it to dry and reapply until you have the color hue you desire. If you need more help, call a painting contractor in Rochester, NY for assistance.

Five Tips to Painting a Beautiful Front Door

11/21/2018

Bring your living space some energy with a vibrant new hue!

Painting your front door is one of the quickest, simplest, and most economical ways to truly remodel your house. All you need is a couple of days to do the job. If your painting skills aren’t that great, contact a company that specializes in home painting in Rochester, NY to do it for you.

Before you apply a quart of your favorite paint shade, check to make sure you’re prepared. A lot of successful front door paint jobs are due to good prep work. Read on for some tips to paint your front door.

Take Your Time…Oh and Pick the Right Color
Take your time picking the right shade you’re about to use on your front door. Be sure to think about how the color works with the light at various times of the day. This is also the time to choose your finish.

Set a Good Time
It doesn’t matter if you prop it open or take it off, you want to paint your front door on a good weather day so it can accurately dry and your home is comfortable. Fall and spring are best. You want to make sure it is a rainy day. A sweltering day is also a no-no. Too much sun will make the paint blister.

Get Your Door Ready
If you have the tools, space, and patience, remove your door from the hinges and put it flat on sawhorse or table. You can paint your front door while it is still intact. You want to make sure to cover the hinges and other parts in painters’ tape. If you want to, you can take off the knob and other unpaintable parts.

Lying it flat stops the paint from running and dripping. After painting, you should prime, clean, and sand the door. This guarantees you get the real color and no dust clumps.

Have Patience
Always wait until every layer dries before applying another one. Make sure not to close the door until it’s dry. We recommend you begin the project in the a.m. so that you can close your door at night. If you close your door before it is totally dry, your door will get stuck, and all that work is wrecked. If you're not sure where to start, call Rochester Painting and we'll get you started.

When the weather begins to get cold in Rochester in the fall, this is a sign that winter is coming quickly. Ahead of those blowing cold winds, there are some easy ways to winterize your home. You might also want to jazz up your home for the winter holidays. If so, contact a business that specializes in interior painting.

Getting your home ready for winter makes your place more energy efficient, so you and your loved ones can be toasty and warm without paying pricey energy bills.

It doesn’t take a lot get your home ready for winter. Just a couple of days is all that’s necessary to winterize your house correctly. Below are some suggestions on what you can do to guarantee that you have a secure and warm home this winter.

Get your furnace inspected by an HVAC specialist
Before you cut on your heat for the first time this winter, let an HVAC expert check it and fix any problems. This heating & cooling professional will make sure your furnace is running safely and effectively. Also, you should get your ducts inspected and clean while the expert is at your home.

Prune any trees nearby
If you have any tree limbs near your windows, driveways, or roof, prune them. If not, ice and snow will put extra weight on them and make them snap. For instance, there can be a severe ice storm in Rochester. You have your car parked in your driveway. If a large branch has a vast amount of ice built on it, it will break and smash in the roof of your car. This can all be prevented if you take a precaution and get your tree pruned.

Your A/C in the winter
You’re most likely won’t be using you’re A/C in the wintertime. Even so, you should take steps to protect it, so your unit stays working a long time. All you have to do to winterize you’re A/C is to drain the hoses or pipes. You don’t want them to freeze in the cold temps.

Another thing you want to do is to vacuum out any water you have in the drain pan of your A/C. Lastly, put a cover over your air conditioning unit. This will prevent rusting and keep the snow out of the unit.

Water stains on your ceiling can radically reduce the resell value of your property, not to mention horrible to look at. It doesn’t matter if you’re doing some home renovations or planning to relocate, the way to remove a water stain on the ceiling can be easy and affordable.

Source of the water. You may see a noticeable leak coming from the floor above or a pipe, but it can be hard to pinpoint. If you don’t find the source of the water before removing the water stain, the issue will keep returning.

Be sure to wear a dust mask, gloves, and safety glasses when you are searching for the water source and to remove the water stain. You should also be aware that due to the longevity of the water leak, you could have mold. If there is mold present, it’s best to use professional painting services to get rid of it safely.

Get rid of damaged drywall. Contingent on the extent of the damage, you might need to take out some or complete sections of your drywall.

If you need to take out a small part of the ceiling, a keyhole saw is typically used to eliminate the affected area.

If the damage is terrible, you might need to use a crowbar or a hammer’s claw end to detach all the marred material.

You should make sure that all the stained drywall is taken out and that any remaining material isn’t sagging and completely dry.

Wash the area. Wash with a household cleaner to make sure that mold and mildew don’t grow.

Fix the hole in the drywall. After all the affected material is gone, replaced it with new drywall. Cut a piece of drywall that is the same size as the spot you took out of the ceiling.

If the spot you are replacing is little, just put the new piece of drywall into the hole and use a joint drywall compound to put in the hole and work like glue, so it remains in place. To flat the mixture and make it even use a putty knife. After the spot completely dries, use sandpaper to even it out even more.
